MILFORD, Mass. — November 11, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT) has launched its Charged Aerosol Detector (CAD), designed for use with Waters Empower Software, a chromatography data system (CDS).
Waters is a market leader in chromatography software solutions for regulatory filings. Empower Software is used to submit data for approximately 80% of novel drugs to regulatory authorities.
The Waters CAD delivers consistent measurement of analytes with little or no UV absorption, including sugars, lipids, impurities, and excipients, without sample pre-treatment. It can characterize materials, from small molecule and biopharmaceutical formulations to food additives, nutrients, and environmental pollutants.
James Hallam, Vice President, Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, Waters Corporation, said that 70% of customers report dropped CDS communications when using multi-vendor LC-CAD configurations. Waters’ CAD resolves these issues with a single-vendor solution for LC-CAD methods using Empower Software.
The Waters CAD delivers dynamic range and sensitivity, alongside compatibility with MaxPeak™ High-Performance Surfaces that mitigate non-specific adsorption. The detector works with Waters liquid chromatography systems, including the Alliance™ iS HPLC System, the Arc™ HPLC System, and all ACQUITY™ UPLC™ Systems.
The integration of the CAD with Empower Software aims to enhance user experience and reduce issues seen in multi-vendor LC-CAD systems, including set-up and dropped communication between detector and chromatograph that leads to interrupted sample sets and detector flooding. Methods developed for existing CADs can be transferred using built-in tools.
The Waters Charged Aerosol Detector is available for pre-order now, with shipments by April 2026.
