Stratus Therapeutics Appoints Nobel Laureate Dr. Ardem Patapoutian to Scientific Advisory Board

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — September 3, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Stratus Therapeutics, Inc. has announced the appointment of Dr. Ardem Patapoutian, PhD, as a Scientific Advisory Board member. Patapoutian, known for his discovery of PIEZO1 and PIEZO2, received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2021. His work underpins the science behind Stratus’ PRIME™ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPC) platform.

Avanish Vellanki, CEO of Stratus, noted that Dr. Patapoutian’s leadership in sensory biology and ion channel function will be invaluable as Stratus refines its approach to scalable, off-the-shelf HSC therapies. Dr. Patapoutian expressed excitement to support Stratus’ science and advance a new model for HSC therapy.

Stratus’ lead product, ST-101, is an on-demand allogeneic therapy designed to deliver hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (Prime HSPCs™) to support full blood and immune system replacement. It is engineered for immediate availability and full HLA compatibility.

Dr. Patapoutian is an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and The Scripps Research Institute. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a recipient of the Kavli Prize in Neuroscience and the BBVA Foundation’s Frontiers of Knowledge Award.
