BOSTON, November 19, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Sapphiros has announced a strategic supply and manufacturing option agreement with Roche, granting Roche exclusive rights to lateral flow technology manufacturing capacity.
Under the agreement, Roche will gain access to at least 1 billion tests annually from Sapphiros’ proprietary manufacturing process, which has a capacity of 5 billion units. This extreme volume manufacturing process is located in the UK and utilizes reel-to-reel technology.
The collaboration also includes access, under the agreement, to Sapphiros’ future instrument-free, multiplex molecular platform for point-of-care and home testing. This platform promises affordable, lab-quality performance in a single-user step, instrument-free, connected format.
According to Mark Gladwell, CEO of Sapphiros, this agreement aligns with the company’s commitment to delivering innovations in diagnostics that enable global access and equitable health outcomes. He believes that the combination of Sapphiros’ unique manufacturing capability and the shared priority of long-term pandemic preparedness will position both companies at the forefront of responding to future health emergencies.
Ian Parfrement, Head of Near Patient Care at Roche Diagnostics, highlighted the vital role of diagnostics during the COVID-19 pandemic in identifying infection earlier and more precisely. He stated that this collaboration further demonstrates Roche’s commitment to partnering with global public health bodies to reduce the spread of infectious diseases in future pandemics.
Sapphiros aims to simplify diagnostics, making them more scalable and accessible. This partnership is intended to support governments, health systems, and communities in mitigating future pandemics through rapid and reliable testing.
Sapphiros is backed by KKR and Neoenta and is a privately held consumer diagnostics company. Its portfolio includes novel sample collection, next-generation diagnostics, and extreme volume manufacturing capabilities, designed to help consumers and communities access important diagnostic results.
