Sandoz Canada Launches Generic Sacubitril-Valsartan for Heart Failure Treatment

SAINT-HUBERT, QC — October 1, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Sandoz Canada has launched PrSandoz® Sacubitril-Valsartan, a generic alternative to PrEntresto, for treating heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). The medication is approved for all indications of the reference medicine. The launch expands Sandoz’s portfolio of cardiovascular therapies for Canadian patients.

PrSandoz® Sacubitril-Valsartan is indicated for heart failure patients with NYHA Class II or III to reduce cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalization. The product is available in 24 mg/26 mg, 49 mg/51 mg, and 97 mg/103 mg tablets.

Heart failure affects over 750,000 Canadians, with nearly 100,000 new cases yearly and is the second leading cause of hospitalization among Canadians over 65, costing over CAD 2.8 billion annually. Nearly half of all cases involve heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

Clinical data indicates that sacubitril-valsartan improves patient outcomes compared to standard therapy, reducing hospitalization rates by 25% to 30%. With over 100,000 Canadians currently treated with the reference product, the generic alternative is expected to deliver substantial savings.

According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), annual spending on this therapy exceeds CAD 100 million nationwide, making it one of the costliest medicines for public drug plans.

Michel Robidoux, President and General Manager, Sandoz Canada, stated the launch reinforces their purpose of pioneering access for patients, delivering a cost-effective treatment option that will generate savings and help patients better manage their cardiovascular health.
