Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) has launched Verida, described as the world’s first detector-based spectral CT fully powered by AI, at RSNA 2025. The CE-marked and 510k pending Verida CT integrates AI across the imaging chain to optimize image quality, accelerate clinical workflow, and reduce radiation dose and energy consumption.
Philips’ spectral CT technology, with over 800 global installations, measures how tissues absorb different x-ray energy levels, which allows clinicians to differentiate materials that appear identical on conventional CT scans. The company says its technology delivers multiple spectral results from a single scan without compromising performance or scan time, and has been embedded into clinical workflow. The technology has been supported by over 800 peer-reviewed publications.
The integration of AI across the imaging chain generates industry-leading spectral image quality with minimal noise and high-definition conventional images. The company claims Verida’s AI capabilities can achieve dramatic dose reduction without compromising image quality, while also reducing energy consumption by up to 45%.
Prof. Eliseo Vañó Galván, cardiovascular radiologist and Chairman of the CT & MR Department at Hospital Nuestra Sra. Del Rosario in Madrid, Spain, stated that the clinical benefits of Verida will fundamentally change his approach to cardiac imaging. He plans to make spectral imaging routine for all patients, with the aim of building a fully spectral CT department.
According to Prof. Vañó Galván, Philips was chosen over systems including photon-counting CT, because it delivers the precision needed in a streamlined, easy-to-use platform. He believes that the result will be greater diagnostic confidence and the potential to reduce the need for invasive angiograms across clinical areas, not just in cardiology.
The company states Verida reconstructs 145 images per second, meaning that entire exams automatically appear in less than 30 seconds, twice as fast as previous systems. This speed allows up to 270 exams every day. Verida combines Spectral Precise Image technology, a deep learning AI reconstruction engine, and its third-generation Nano-panel Precise dual-layer detector with intrinsic noise reduction optimized for AI, to deliver faster, more dose-efficient spectral reconstructions.
Dan Xu, Business Leader of CT at Philips, said that the Verida CT system is designed to set a new standard in superior image quality and accelerated scans fully embedded in the radiology workflow. This will help clinicians detect and characterize disease earlier, reduce variability in diagnoses, and support efficient treatment pathways in a single scan.
Philips’ software-defined CT approach is advanced by Verida, which pairs AI-driven spectral precision to improve clinical and operational results. It is designed for high-demand environments and aims to streamline workflows, reduce repeat scans, and deliver consistently sharp imaging across all care pathways.
Philips plans to make Verida available in select markets beginning in 2026, pending regulatory clearance.
