EDMONTON, AB — October 10, 2025 — Leads & Copy — To mark World Mental Health Day, PCL Construction is donating $1.5 million to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto. The donation aims to support mental health and addiction services, addressing an issue affecting millions of Canadians, including those in the construction industry.
Mike Wieninger, PCL Chief Operating Officer, Canada, stated the donation reaffirms the company’s commitment to the wellbeing of its employees and trade partners. Half of all Canadians will experience a mental illness by age 40, with 500,000 people missing work daily due to mental health concerns.
The construction sector faces pressures that increase the risk of mental health challenges and addiction. According to Statistics Canada, 17.2% of men and 12.6% of women in construction report high work-related stress, and 64% of construction workers wish their employers would do more to support mental health initiatives.
CAMH Foundation President & CEO Anne-Marie Newton said the gift will provide vital education, tools, and supports. PCL will work with CAMH to bring curated programming and expert-informed education, tools and support that will empower employees to better understand the impact of mental health in the workplace and adopt practical strategies for resilience and wellbeing.
PCL’s donation supplements its health and wellness program that provides education and encourages open conversations. Superintendent with PCL Toronto, Andrew Scott, said the support and resources provided by PCL made all the difference when he struggled with anxiety.
