Ochre Bio Completes Human Liver Datasets with GSK

OXFORD, England, November 18, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Ochre Bio, a biotechnology firm focused on RNA therapeutics for chronic liver disease, has successfully completed the research phase of its collaboration with GSK, yielding two comprehensive human liver datasets.

The collaboration has produced a large-scale functional genomics dataset from primary human hepatocytes, created by systematically knocking down all known hepatocyte genes in multiple donors. Researchers then profiled downstream effects using RNA sequencing. Additionally, they constructed a single-cell dataset from perfused human donor livers, capturing gene expression across different cell types and donors.

The collaboration is transitioning into a multi-year co-exclusive license agreement. This agreement grants both Ochre Bio and GSK the ability to use Ochre-generated proprietary human liver data. The aim is to accelerate the discovery and development of new treatments for liver diseases.

Ochre’s OBELiX software integrates these datasets with proprietary disease atlases. This combines gene perturbation data with clinical phenotypes, enabling a causal mapping of gene function to proprietary disease signatures across pathways and cell types. The collaboration aims to reveal how different liver cell populations contribute to liver disease progression.

According to Ochre Bio, the data will provide foundational data for training AI models and understanding promising therapeutic targets.

Quin Wills, founder and CEO of Ochre Bio, emphasized the importance of large-scale human datasets, stating that they allow for causal exploration of human disease biology and enable algorithms to explore the complexities of human disease biology.

Kaivan Khavandi, SVP, Head of Respiratory, Immunology & Inflammation at GSK, noted that the collaboration has generated data that supports a deepened understanding of human biology and disease, which will help power the discovery and development of new medicines for liver diseases.

Ochre Bio develops RNA medicines for under-treated chronic liver diseases, utilizing a discovery platform that combines machine learning, big human datasets, in-house RNA chemistry, and testing in live human donor livers. The company is based in Oxford, UK, with research labs in New York and Taipei.
