(Nasdaq: CADL) has appointed Bali Pulendran, Ph.D., an expert in systems immunology and vaccinology, to its Research Advisory Board (RAB). Pulendran will contribute his expertise as Candel advances its viral immunotherapy candidate CAN-2409 across solid tumor indications and CAN-3110 for recurrent high-grade glioma.
Dr. Pulendran, a Violetta L. Horton Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of the Institute for Immunity, Transplantation and Infection, expressed his honor in joining Candel during this pivotal stage, noting the company’s innovative approach to activating the immune system against cancer.
Paul Peter Tak, M.D., Ph.D., FMedSci, President and CEO of Candel, welcomed Dr. Pulendran, highlighting his pioneering work and deep understanding of the immune system’s responses to stimuli.
Candel is focused on developing off-the-shelf, multimodal viral immunotherapies. The company has two clinical-stage platforms based on genetically modified adenovirus and herpes simplex virus (HSV) gene constructs. CAN-2409, from the adenovirus platform, has completed phase 2a clinical trials in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). It is also in a phase 3 clinical trial for localized prostate cancer. CAN-3110, from the HSV platform, is in a phase 1b clinical trial for recurrent high-grade glioma.
