SAN DIEGO, May 6, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Bionano Genomics, Inc. (Nasdaq: BNGO) has appointed Al Luderer, Ph.D., chairman of its Board of Directors, as interim president and chief executive officer, effective May 5, 2026. Director Chris Twomey will take the position of Lead Independent Director. Erik Holmlin, PhD, the outgoing president and CEO, will remain with the company as an advisor, ensuring a seamless transition without any business disruptions, according to Bionano.
Dr. Luderer has been a member of Bionano’s Board of Directors since November 2011 and has served as Chairman since June 2024. He brings three decades of biotechnology experience to the role, with a focus on technology, business development, and commercialization. His previous positions include CEO of Indi Molecular, president and CEO of BioTrove, CEO of Light Sciences, and president and COO of bioMérieux, Inc.
Dr. Luderer stated that he is committed to Bionano’s mission and long-term opportunities. He has worked closely with the team as Chairman and has a clear view of the organization’s strengths and the work ahead. He added that he looks forward to working with employees, partners, and shareholders to maintain momentum and position Bionano for its next chapter of growth. Mr. Twomey noted that Al brings a combination of industry expertise and knowledge of Bionano. He has been a member of the Board for over a decade and Chairman since 2024. His experience in biotechnology and life sciences companies makes him suited to lead Bionano through this transition. The Board is confident in his leadership while they search for a permanent Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Twomey added.
