August 4, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: BIO and BIO.B), a global leader in life science research and clinical diagnostics products, reported second-quarter financial results for the period ended June 30, 2026. The company announced that second-quarter reported revenue was flat year-over-year, with growth in its Clinical Diagnostics segment offset by continued softness in its Life Science segment. Despite these challenges, Bio-Rad saw its digital PCR instrument revenue increase by more than 20%.
Norman Schwartz, Bio-Rad’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, noted that the EMEA region returned to growth, supported by Middle East channel restocking amidst regional volatility. During the quarter, the company generated $99 million in operating cash flow and repurchased approximately $32 million of its shares. Bio-Rad is reaffirming its full-year outlook, emphasizing its focus on driving growth, expanding margins, and creating long-term shareholder value.
For the second quarter of 2026, total net sales were $651.0 million, compared to $651.6 million in the second quarter of 2025, marking a period of essentially flat sales. On a currency-neutral basis, sales decreased by 1.9 percent year-over-year, primarily due to lower sales within the Life Science segment.
The Life Science segment recorded net sales of $252.0 million for the second quarter, a decrease of 4.1 percent compared to the same period in 2025. On a currency-neutral basis, this segment’s sales declined by 5.1 percent, largely attributed to ongoing difficulties in the academic research market. In contrast, the Clinical Diagnostics segment posted net sales of $399.0 million, an increase of 2.6 percent compared to the second quarter of 2025. On a currency-neutral basis, this segment’s sales grew by 0.3 percent, driven by advancements in quality systems, diabetes, and blood typing products, partially moderated by reduced sales of infectious disease products.
Bio-Rad’s reported GAAP net income for the second quarter of 2026 was $371.4 million, or $13.85 per diluted share. This compares to a GAAP net income of $317.8 million, or $11.67 per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2025. A significant factor contributing to the net income in the current quarter was a change in the fair market value of the company’s investment in Sartorius AG.
The effective tax rate for the second quarter of 2026 was 31.5 percent, up from 23.2 percent in the same period of 2025. These rates were influenced by the change in fair market value of equity securities, shifts in the geographical distribution of earnings, and new tax legislation. The non-GAAP effective tax rate decreased to 18.3 percent in the second quarter of 2026 from 22.7 percent in the second quarter of 2025, mainly due to the geographical mix of earnings.
Looking ahead to the full year 2026, Bio-Rad maintains its forecast for non-GAAP, currency-neutral revenue to range from a decline of approximately 3.0 percent to growth of approximately 0.5 percent. The company also anticipates a non-GAAP operating margin of approximately 10.0 to 12.0 percent.
Management is scheduled to discuss the company’s second quarter 2026 results and financial outlook during a conference call on August 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. A live webcast will be accessible via the company’s investor relations website.
