Acentra Health Launches Safe AI in Medicaid Alliance

MCLEAN, Va. — September 9, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Acentra Health has launched the Safe AI in Medicaid Alliance (SAMA) to develop safe and responsible AI frameworks for Medicaid adoption and use. The collaborative initiative unites Medicaid leaders, policy experts, and technology innovators.

SAMA, created with input from the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA), the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), Amazon Web Services (AWS), McKinsey & Co., Arcadia, and the Acentra Health Healthcare Advisory Board, addresses operational, compliance, and equity challenges facing state Medicaid programs.

According to Daniel Hallenbeck, Vice President of Strategy, SAMA offers a dedicated space for states and partners to define safe, transparent, and scalable AI adoption. The alliance convened in August at the Medicaid Enterprise Systems Conference (MESC) to discuss challenges, collaboration, and draft deliverables.

Julie Boughn of JBoughn Advisory Services, LLC, says the alliance is building practical tools to ensure AI improves outcomes without creating new risks. SAMA has grown to include 32 states and one U.S. territory.
